However, I must note that the majestic Smoky Mountains, while awe-inspiring, are off-limits to our four-legged friends for their safety. But fear not! Here is a list of five incredible dog-friendly and pet-friendly trails in Knoxville, where you and your loyal companion can embark on unforgettable journeys through nature's wonders. So, lace up your hiking boots, grab your pet’s leash or backpack, and dive into the remarkable trails in Knoxville's backyard.



Distance 1.3 mile loop

Time: est 30 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

This is the main loop of Ijams Nature Center and gives your beautiful scenic views of the Tennessee River



Meade's Quarry with 2 trails

Meade’s Quarry is just a stone’s throw ( haha get it? 😂) from Ijams Nature Center. After your hike you and your furry friend can take a dip in the stunning almost tropical cool waters.

Distance: 1.3-mile loop

Time: est 40 minutes.

Difficulty: Moderate



Distance: 1.1-mile out-and-back trail.

Time: Est 25 minutes

Difficulty: Easy


Distance: 1.3-mile loop

Time: 30 minutes

Difficulty: Easy.

This place almost doesn’t seem real. So close to Downtown but this trail transports you to a world within a world. Another place to dive in and cool down.


Distance:3.6-mile loop

Time: 1 hr 30 minutes

Difficulty: Moderate

Adding a little more difficulty, this trail provides “THAT” view perfect for summer and fall views. You get the ideal downtown Knoxville view including the iconic Sunsphere



Distance:4.4-mile loop

Time: less than 2 hours

Difficulty: Easy- Moderate


This trail gives you and your pet a couple of options for your comfort level. Then afterward your dog can splash in PetSafe’s Dog Park swimming area, complete with a jumping dock and ramp to access the water.
